Two great building legacies, one residential team.

Our residential team began life as Homeworx — co-founded in Hawke's Bay in 1998 by managing director Gordon Sanson. Over more than 28 years, and with son Chris joining the business as a carpenter and daughter Annika joining the business as the interior designer, Homeworx grew into the region's leading home builder, helping over 400 families turn their dream home ideas into reality and bringing design, construction, interior design, site excavation and landscaping together under one roof.

That commitment to craftsmanship has been recognised industry-wide. Homeworx has earned 104 Registered Master Builders' House of the Year Awards and the prestigious Sapphire Award for maintaining exceptional quality standards over a decade — a legacy of award-winning workmanship that continues to define the way our residential team builds today.

Quality is achieved through a 210-point quality-control checklist across eight stages of construction, plus a final 85-point check before we hand over the keys — so every home is delivered pristine and defect-free.

The Alexander Construction Group was founded in Napier in 1947 by Ralph Alexander, who used an army gratuity from his service in World War II to start a carpentry and joinery workshop from the family home. Joined by his brother Cedric, the family business grew alongside Hawke's Bay — taking on the housing developments, government contracts and community projects that helped shape the region.

After almost four decades, leadership passed to Ralph's son Chris in 1984, and in 2002 to current director and major shareholder Mark Hamilton, who continues to take the company forward with the same focus on quality, integrity and care. A second office opened in Manawatū in 2013, and today Alexander operates throughout the central North Island — delivering residential, commercial, industrial, health, education, retail and community projects with the same grit and standards that shaped the company in 1947.

In 2025, Alexander Construction Group acquired Homeworx — bringing a specialist residential new-build team into the group. Same local Hawke's Bay team, same homes, same award-winning standards — now with the resources and depth of one of New Zealand's most established construction names behind us. Together, we trade as Alexander Homes.
